Summary / Role Purpose

The Senior R&D Software Developer position is responsible for the development of software products and supporting systems at Ansys. As a member of our team, you will use advanced technical and problem-solving skills to help tackle complex issues, satisfy customer requirements, and accomplish development objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in planning, architecture, and research to drive software development forward.
  • Perform complex development activities, including user experience, software design, and solver research.
  • Employ best practices and help maintain them through technical reviews and mentoring.
  • Verify complex bugs, perform release testing, and provide beta support for assigned products.
  • Research problems discovered by QA or product support and develop solutions.
  • Understand marketing requirements for products, including target environment, performance criteria, and competitive issues.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and take on planning and mentoring responsibilities.
  • Manage interns or co-ops, but typically do not have direct reports.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 5 years' experience, MS with 3 years' experience, or PhD with 1 year experience.
  • Commercial experience with software design and development methodologies.
  • Coursework and practical experience developing models in computational fluid dynamics and thermal sciences.
  • Practical experience in numerical software development.
  • Fortran experience.
  • Ability to learn scientific computer languages, including Python.
  • Familiarity with commercial CFD software.
  • Familiarity with various aspects of parallel computing and HPC.
  • Experience delivering high-quality products in a large-scale commercial software development environment.
  • Understanding of customer requirements and tools used in this domain.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Oral and written English proficiency.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a geographically distributed team.
