Quantum Hardware Engineer

At Universal Quantum, we're pushing the boundaries of what's possible with quantum technology. As a Quantum Hardware Engineer, you'll play a critical role in designing, assembling, and commissioning ion-trap and atomic physics hardware for our cutting-edge quantum computers.
What You'll Accomplish- Apply your expertise in ion trapping and atomic physics to develop innovative hardware solutions for our quantum computing systems.
- Collaborate with our multidisciplinary team to integrate control systems, troubleshoot custom control software, and perform experiments in a laboratory setting.
- Document your findings, measurements, and system characteristics to inform the development of our mature product.
- Drive the development of new concepts and technologies for future products, working closely with our team of Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Software Engineers, Physicists, and Quantum Engineers.
We're looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional with a strong background in quantum computing, ion trapping, and atomic physics. The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience with laser cooling and trapping of ions or atoms.
- Experience assembling ion-trap and ultra-high-vacuum systems.
- Experience designing and testing laser, detection, magnetic, RF, and/or microwave hardware systems.
- Working knowledge of precision-timed control systems and signal processing.
- Experience with quantum computing, quantum control, and/or quantum information processing.
- Ability to perform simulation and modeling to inform experiments.
- PhD or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience involving one or more of the following areas: ion trapping, atomic physics, laser systems, ultra-high vacuum systems, detection systems, microwave technology, magnetic field environments.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with published results in the field of research.
- Strong organizational skills, and experience working with customers and partners.
- Postdoc experience.
- Experience working with ion trap quantum computing hardware.
- Proficient in Python.
