Under the general supervision of a Lead or Supervisor within the Installation Branch, the incumbent will independently operate various types of heavy machinery, including graders, scoop loaders, trench diggers, dredgers, dozers, and caterpillars. These machines are utilized for tasks such as excavating, refilling, grading, and leveling earth to meet rough specifications. Typical projects may involve creating new trails and roads, as well as excavating for canals, tunnels, and construction sites. The operator will work in proximity to buildings, trees, rocks, and other obstacles, adhering to fine specifications on challenging terrain as determined by construction planners.
The incumbent will identify malfunctions in the assigned equipment and rectify minor issues. They will adjust attachments for optimal positioning and, depending on the assignment, may operate concrete paving machines and compactors. Additionally, the operator will assist in the safe transportation of engineering machinery, including loading and unloading equipment. Compliance with safety regulations governing the operation of engineering equipment is mandatory, and the use of protective devices attached to the machinery is required.
As a Heavy Equipment Operator, responsibilities include operating machinery to push, pull, dig, pile, or load materials such as sand, gravel, earth, or refuse. Tasks may involve loading dump trucks, maintaining refuse dumps, and clearing brush, tree stumps, and rocks. The operator will adjust attachments for the appropriate level, angle, or depth based on the work requirements and equipment type. Work is generally performed on flat or rolling terrain, refuse dumps, and construction sites with straightforward terrain challenges. Routine maintenance on assigned equipment is expected, including oil additions, lubrication of moving parts, and inspections for wear or damage.
The incumbent will also assist telecommunication technicians with installation tasks during projects, which includes laying cables in soil, cable shafts, and buildings, as well as installing cable ducts within buildings. They will perform necessary breakthroughs in walls and ceilings using drilling techniques and assist in setting up and dismantling material storage. The role may require working at significant heights (e.g., on poles, scaffolds, and ladders) and operating various power tools. Depending on operational needs, the operator may also drive motor vehicles to transport personnel and materials between project sites, necessitating possession of the appropriate German and U.S. military driver's licenses.
Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
A:
Completed vocational training as a Heavy Equipment Operator.
OR
5 years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator.
A:
Completed vocational training as a Heavy Equipment Operator PLUS 2 years of experience in comparable roles that were performed independently.
OR
8 years of relevant experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator, with at least 3 years in comparable roles.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY:
English Level A2 and German Level C1 required.
• On-call duty is required.
• The incumbent may be required to perform temporary duty travel.
