Mechanical Engineer

The Mechanical Engineer is a key member of the engineering team at OSI Maritime Systems, responsible for developing innovative navigation and bridge systems for the government and naval markets. This role requires a strong background in mechanical engineering, with a focus on designing, selecting, and evaluating mechanical components and their interconnections within bridge systems.
Key Responsibilities- Design and Development: Perform studies, experiments, research, and tests to contribute to the design and development of navigation and bridge system products, adhering to established codes, standards, drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Design and Specification: Create and update mechanical designs based on commercial and military-grade products, including the design and specification of parts and components.
- Standards and Best Practices: Assist with writing and maintaining OSI Maritime Systems' mechanical engineering standards and best practices.
- Mentorship and Training: Train and mentor junior mechanical engineers on OSI Maritime Systems' mechanical standards and best practices.
- Parts Database Management: Update and maintain OSI Maritime Systems' parts database.
- Hardware Requirements: Review hardware requirements, produce hardware design documents, and ensure the proposed solution meets stated requirements.
- Design Review: Review designs for adherence to industry and government standards.
- Technical Tasks: Carry out technical tasks requiring accuracy of calculations, completeness of data, and adherence to prescribed methods.
- Feasibility Studies: Interpret and analyze design data in preparing feasibility studies and prepare reports for assigned work, resolving technical problems within the scope of the assignment.
- Design Information: Provide design information and guidance to support personnel, and occasionally to suppliers, in preparation of detailed design, design testing, and prototype fabrication.
- Design Compliance: Ensure that the resulting design meets system, customer, and budgetary requirements and is compliant with industry and government standards.
- Communication: Clearly communicate technical and design solutions to other departments.
- Engineering Change Requests: Execute engineering change requests (CRs) and provide supporting justification data.
- Health and Safety: Follow workplace operating and environmental, health, and safety procedures and guidelines.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: 5+ years of practical mechanical engineering experience.
- Skills: Experience with mechanical design and design for manufacturing, vibration, shock, thermal, and structural analysis (FEA and MathCAD), working knowledge of product certification testing to civilian and military standards, proven ability to analyze and solve hardware problems, experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD, experience with MS Office Suite and SharePoint, working knowledge of peripheral equipment, test, diagnostic, and measuring equipment.
- Personal Qualities: Ability to thrive as a member of a project team, organized, able to handle multiple projects and prioritize workload, working knowledge of certification to standards, knowledge of Shipbuilding codes an asset.
