Senior Structural Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Structural Engineer to join our team in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our Structural Engineering Section, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and checking complex bridges and structures for new construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects.

• Design and analyze structural elements, including bridges and ancillary structures, to ensure compliance with AASHTO and VDOT specifications.
• Manage projects from conception to completion, including coordinating design activities with other sections, divisions, and consultants.
• Provide technical guidance and support to project teams, including developing effective and economical recommendations for construction problems and other bridge-related inquiries.
• Lead or participate in project teams, ensuring timely communications between team members and stakeholders.
• Develop and manage project schedules, review proposals and manhours, assist with negotiations, and coordinate activities for advertisement.

• Experience applying civil engineering principles and practices related to structural engineering, including strength of materials, statics, and structural analysis.
• Experience in structural steel design, reinforced and prestressed concrete design, and soil mechanics.
• Knowledge of specifications, codes, and regulations related to structural design, including AASHTO and LRFD structural design standards.
• Ability to manage projects and review and administer consultant design contracts.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers.
• Ability to estimate quantities and cost of materials.
• Ability to produce structural design plans and notes.
• Ability to interpret construction plans and design specifications.
• Valid Professional Engineer license.
• Valid driver's license required.

• Experience in the structural analysis and rating of existing bridges and sign/signal structures.
• Experience in the bridge design using AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
• Experience in bridge repair and rehabilitation.
• Strong project management skills and familiarity with database management and/or macros.
