Senior Functional Safety Engineer Leader

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Functional Safety Engineer to lead our software development team in ensuring the safety and reliability of our products. This role involves a combination of functional safety analysis, system architecture design, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

X4 Technology is a leading provider of innovative energy storage solutions. We are looking for a seasoned Functional Safety Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of cutting-edge technologies in this domain.
Key Responsibilities:
- Functional Safety Assessment: Lead the assessment of functional safety activities across software, system, and hardware domains to ensure compliance with relevant standards such as ISO 13849 and IEC 61508.
- Certification Support: Support the certification process by preparing documents, participating in audits, and ensuring adherence to necessary safety standards.
- Requirements Management: Take responsibility for gathering, analyzing, and validating safety requirements, ensuring proper documentation and traceability from system requirements to final certification.
- System Architecture and Integration: Work closely with hardware and software teams to ensure that functional safety is integrated into the system architecture, particularly for battery management systems (BMS) and energy storage systems.
- Risk Analysis & Mitigation: Perform risk assessments, FMEA/FMECA, fault tree analysis, and other safety-critical analysis methods as required, developing and implementing safety measures aligned with internal and external safety standards.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, hardware, quality assurance, and safety) to address safety requirements effectively in each phase of product development.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare and maintain clear, concise documentation related to functional safety activities, including safety case reports, risk assessments, and safety validation reports.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- A proven track record in functional safety engineering, preferably with a focus on software development and embedded systems.
- Strong familiarity with ISO 13849 and IEC 61508, especially for safety-related embedded systems and software.
- Familiarity with IEC 2580 (US norm for battery safety) is a plus, particularly in the context of home energy storage systems.
- Experience with IEC 60730 (home appliances safety) and IEC 1973 (related to requirement-taking processes) is beneficial.
- Background in Requirements Engineering, capturing and managing functional and safety requirements.
- Familiarity with Battery Management Systems (BMS) and energy storage technologies is advantageous.
- Understanding of Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and embedded software development practices.
- Knowledge of system-level architecture and its application in safety-critical systems.
Salary Range: $120,000 - $160,000 per annum, depending on experience.
