About the Role

We're looking for a customer-oriented and innovation-driven individual to join our team as a Technical Service and Development Scientist for Wire & Cable, located in Wiesbaden, Germany.

The incumbent will be part of the Technical Service and Development (TS&D) group within the Packaging and Specialty Plastics business.

The TS&D Scientist for this position will work on the Wire & Cable market, focusing mainly on Telecom Cable projects and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Live the safety standards, code of conduct, and ethics principles of Dow and ensure that development work is carried out using the highest standards in terms of sustainable development.
  • Lead technically new product, application, and technology implementation in the Wire & Cable segment (Focus on Telecom Market) according to the business strategy.
  • Provide technical support to customers to implement new products and troubleshoot in case of technical issues.
  • Interface with technical, engineering, and commercial teams and counter parties within the customer's organization.
  • Identify emerging competitive technology threats and drive the development of solutions that respond to such threats.
  • Address the identified technical unmet needs in new product developments aligned with the Marketing participation plans by teaming up with other R&D groups in Dow or external ones.
  • Collect market opportunities and translate those into technical unmet needs at all members of the value chain based on the market strategies.
  • Create and share effective technical documentation that will help to leverage application and product knowledge.
  • Charter new projects with clear descriptions of the project scope, the timeline for project milestones, and the assessment of the value of the opportunity.
  • Complete development work using the Scientific Method, carry out literature reviews, formulate technical hypothesis, develop test plans, carry experiments, and provide conclusions and recommendations.
  • Keep clear and updated project documentation featuring basic information as project's scope, definition, timelines, deliverables, milestones, value assessment, etc.
  • Keep building and improving the most effective external network including related machinery manufacturers to facilitate new product developments, implementations, and qualifications.
  • Travel as required and defined per customer/market needs, while managing expenses within the given travel annual budget.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree, PhD, or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Material Sciences, or Polymer technology.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English is a must, and other European languages are a plus. Willingness to learn German will be appreciated.
  • Experience on cable extrusion, plastics/polymers processing, material characterization, and customer service.
  • Knowledge of Telecom market (Copper Wire and Fiber Optical Cable).
  • Knowledge of Power transmission and flame-retardant technologies is a plus.
  • Flexibility: Travelling within EMEA region up to 30-40%.
  • Other skills and abilities: Creativity and curiosity combined with high technical skills, outstanding team working spirit, eagerness and motivation to partner and communicate with other functions to achieve superior results, strong leadership and drive to develop innovation, create value, and help capture premiums for the company, ability to identify, leverage, and manage adequate resources to support innovation projects and business opportunities, willingness to learn, develop oneself, and go out of the comfort zone, strong project management skills.
