We are seeking a dedicated Master's graduate in computer science to take on a project-funded role focused on the development and implementation of machine learning techniques in healthcare settings.
Project Overview
The project, titled CASSANDRA – Clinical Assist and Alert Algorithms in Visceral Surgery, addresses the critical need for enhanced patient monitoring following surgical procedures. In Germany, millions of surgical operations are conducted annually, with a significant number linked to major abdominal organ systems. These intricate surgeries often lead to high rates of postoperative complications, necessitating improved monitoring strategies.
The aim of the CASSANDRA project is to develop and assess machine learning algorithms that can effectively detect and predict postoperative complications, including intra-abdominal infections. The project will integrate static preoperative risk factors with dynamic real-time data collected from patients, thereby facilitating timely interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in establishing a wireless network on hospital wards to enable real-time collection of patient vital signs from wearable devices.
- Create methodologies for processing raw signal data, including the development of automated signal quality checks and data cleaning protocols.
- Design and evaluate various machine learning models that merge static risk factors with dynamic vital parameters, focusing on clinical outcomes such as the incidence of surgical complications.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in computer science or data science.
- Proficiency in data mining, computational statistics, and machine learning methodologies.
- Strong programming skills in high-level languages.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate creativity, and collaborate effectively within a team.
- Excellent command of the English language.
