The DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 1665 "Sexdiversity. Determinants, meanings and implications of sex diversity in sociocultural, medical and biological landscapes" is a transdisciplinary initiative integrating medicine, life sciences, humanities, and social sciences. The primary objective of this center is to explore the diverse expressions of physiological sex across various contexts, from cellular and organ levels to organisms, social systems, and epistemic cultures.

Position Overview

Research Assistant / PhD Student (m/f/d)

Subproject: M05 "Describing the metabolome of sex variability" at the Institute of Chemistry

This position is available within subproject M05, which focuses on the characterization of metabolic profiles related to sex variability. The role is based in Lübeck and is led by Prof. Dr. Karsten Seeger. The position is limited until December 31, 2027.

In this subproject, metabolic analyses will be conducted to enhance the understanding of sexual development mechanisms. Various sample types, including serum and cell culture samples, will be analyzed using NMR spectroscopy, followed by statistical evaluation of the acquired spectra. The findings will be interpreted in collaboration with other projects within the center.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducting cell culture experiments and preparing samples for subsequent analysis
  • Performing metabolic investigations on diverse sample materials utilizing NMR spectroscopy
  • Statistical analysis of NMR spectra and interpretation of the results
  • Actively participating in the scientific program of the SFB's graduate college
Qualifications:
  • A strong academic background in natural sciences (Master's degree or equivalent) in life sciences or a biomedical field
  • Interest in collaboration with researchers at the University of Lübeck and other institutions
  • Willingness to engage with scholars from the humanities and social sciences
  • Familiarity with cell culture techniques and statistical/bioinformatics methodologies
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team while maintaining an independent and structured approach
  • Eagerness to learn new techniques, including NMR spectroscopy
