General Corrections Officer with Future Civil Service Appointment in the Career Group 1, 2nd Entry Level (m/f/d)

As a General Corrections Officer, you will be responsible for supervising, caring for, and supporting inmates within correctional facilities.

Working closely with various specialized services, including psychologists, medical professionals, educators, and chaplains, you will ensure that male adult inmates maintain a responsible and orderly lifestyle within the institution.

Your duties will include monitoring the daily activities of inmates, participating in assessments, motivating individuals to achieve their rehabilitation goals, and providing assistance with personal matters.

In this role, you will significantly contribute to helping inmates lead law-abiding lives post-release.

This position offers a responsible role in a dynamic environment of great societal importance, along with the security of a job in public administration.

General Corrections Officers work in shifts, including weekends and holidays, to ensure continuous service, with days off provided for work-life balance.

What qualifications are required?

To apply for the General Corrections Service, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of middle school education or vocational training with a public-law employment relationship
  • Minimum age of 20 at the time of employment, not regularly exceeding 40 at the time of civil service appointment; for severely disabled individuals, not regularly exceeding 45
  • Possession of German or EU citizenship
  • Commitment to the democratic constitutional order
  • Personal, intellectual, physical, and health suitability for the role
  • Medical fitness for duty

Entry into the General Corrections Service typically begins with an employee relationship, with no fixed hiring dates. The employment contract includes a clause for transition to a civil servant on probation within three years. The transition to civil servant status and the commencement of career training depend on the availability of training positions and existing union employees.

Upon successful completion of the examination, the probationary status will conclude. With satisfactory performance, the transition to a civil servant on a trial basis is highly likely. Various roles will be available as you gain professional experience, subject to performance evaluations (salary range: A 7 to A 9 m.Z., potentially up to A 11, in accordance with the State Salary Act).
