About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Master student in mechanical engineering, energy engineering, or a related field to join our team at the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR). As a research assistant, you will contribute to the development of innovative solar thermal systems and participate in the simulation and post-processing of particle flow in the centrifugal particle solar receiver.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop simulation models of the Centrifugal Solar Particle Receiver (CentRec) using Discrete Element Method (DEM)-based open source simulation tools
  • Evaluate the results and analyze laser measurements of receiver wall
  • Create a simplified CAD model of the receiver cavity in Autodesk Inventor
  • Develop a post-processing routine in Paraview to calculate the velocity field of particles in the receiver
Requirements
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering, energy engineering, or a related field
  • Interest in dynamic simulations of particle systems
  • Data analysis skills, e.g. Matlab, Python, Paraview
  • Prior knowledge on Paraview and/or Discrete Element Method tools is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills in English
