Agricultural Operations Supervisor

Position Overview:
The Farm Operations Manager (FOM) plays a crucial role in overseeing all aspects of field and plot-level agricultural production at the Rice Research and Extension Center. Reporting directly to the Center Director, the FOM is responsible for the effective implementation and management of various crop production activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage tillage operations, planting schedules, fertilization processes, pest control measures, and irrigation management.
- Maintain comprehensive farm records and oversee harvesting operations.
- Collaborate with the Foundation Seed Program to ensure the upkeep of all irrigation infrastructure, including pumps, motors, pipelines, and moisture monitoring equipment.
- Work closely with the maintenance supervisor to manage and maintain heavy machinery such as tractors, combines, and planters.
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among researchers, technicians, students, and industry partners to achieve project goals.
- Assist the Center Director in creating a conducive working environment for all research staff.
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a minimum of a B.S. degree in agriculture, crop and soil science, agronomy, or a related field, along with three years of relevant experience in farm management operations. Alternatively, a Master’s degree in one of the specified fields is acceptable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of field research, particularly with row crops, and have experience in irrigated crop production. Familiarity with standard farm safety protocols is essential.
