Job Title: Postdoc, Turbulence parameterization

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the Leibniz Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) in the Department of Modeling of Atmospheric Processes.

About the Position

The successful candidate will work on the development and implementation of a new turbulence parameterization scheme for the ICON model, a high-resolution global climate model. The goal is to improve the representation of turbulent mixing in the atmosphere and its impact on climate variability.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a new turbulence parameterization scheme for the ICON model
  • Perform simulations with the ICON model to evaluate the new scheme
  • Analyze the results and compare them with observations and other climate models
  • Collaborate with other researchers in the department and the DFG-CRC 181
  • Contribute to the development of the ICON model and its applications
Requirements
  • PhD in physics, meteorology, or a related field
  • Strong background in atmospheric dynamics and turbulence
  • Excellent programming skills in Fortran, C++, or Python
  • Experience with parallel computing and high-performance computing
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
