Linguistic Software Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Linguistic Application Engineer to join our team at the University of Zurich. As a key member of our research institution, you will play a crucial role in the design and realization of complex data-driven applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with our team to design and implement cutting-edge linguistic data processing and NLP pipelines.
• Develop user interfaces for complex searches on large data collections, utilizing your expertise in software development and web application frameworks.
• Design, review, test, and evaluate innovative applications and methods, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
• Write well-structured, deployable code that meets the needs of our research projects.
• Work closely with other team members and stakeholders to organize and prioritize tasks, ensuring seamless collaboration and effective communication.

About You

We are looking for a highly qualified individual with a strong background in professional software development, preferably with experience in web application frameworks. Your expertise in Python and SQL is essential, and knowledge of JavaScript, linguistic databases, Large Language Models, and Deep Learning is a plus.

Requirements

• Demonstrable experience in software development, with a strong understanding of software engineering principles.
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.
• Experience with linguistic databases and NLP pipelines, with a deep understanding of their applications and limitations.
• Expertise in Large Language Models and Deep Learning, with a strong understanding of their potential and challenges.
• MA/BA/MSc Degree or proven working experience in Computational/Corpus Linguistics, Computer Science, or Software Engineering.
• Excellent command of English, with good command of German a plus.
