Engineering Director Webshop Frontend

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Engineering Webshop Frontend to join our team at Tchibo. As a key member of our technical leadership team, you will be responsible for driving the technical vision and strategy for our webshop frontend.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and operation of multiple customer-facing features, services, and sub-products within our webshop.
  • Manage and develop up to 3 teams of software developers (full-stack, frontend, and mobile) through coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance.
  • Act as a servant leader, ensuring the challenges and needs of your teams are always top of mind, removing obstacles, and developing strong teams through skilling, hiring, and staffing.
  • Collaborate with other leaders, architects, and technical experts to define development standards, promote best practices, and ensure their implementation in your teams.
  • Drive the development and implementation of technical product strategies in your area of responsibility, evaluating new technology trends with your tech leads to bring our e-commerce platform's technical vision to life.
  • As a member of our TECH leadership team, play a crucial role in taking our agile TECH organization to the next level by continuously improving our processes, technical vision, and webshop architecture.
  • Work at the intersection of product, TECH, UX, and other departments, using your deep technical understanding and communication skills to achieve the best results.
Requirements
  • Hold a successful degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Have at least 8 years of practical experience in software engineering as a developer, architect, etc., with a passion for new technologies.
  • Have relevant practical experience as a team lead/head of engineering or in a comparable position in technical and/or disciplinary leadership of multiple teams of software developers.
  • Be familiar with engineering teams and organizations that develop software products in a scaled environment.
  • Have experience working with high-availability, distributed systems, and services in a cloud environment like the Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Be enthusiastic about our modern and future-proof technology stack (Vue.js/TypeScript/Kotlin/SpringBoot/REST and Flutter).
  • Have fundamental experience with current frontend technologies and experience in conceiving and implementing microservice architectures.
  • Have excellent problem-solving and communication skills, as well as a secure appearance in word and writing in English, with B1-level German knowledge.
