Transportation Coordinator U.S. Army Europe and Africa Application Eligibility

Eligible candidates include current internal Local National Employees across Germany, encompassing all Local National staff of the U.S. Forces in Germany.

Key Responsibilities

The Transportation Coordinator functions as a vital support role, overseeing the examination and validation of transportation invoices and associated documentation to ensure precision and thoroughness. This position encompasses a comprehensive array of transportation services for active military personnel, reserve units, and Department of Defense (DOD) civilians regarding the management of authorized personal property shipment and storage entitlements funded by the government.

Responsibilities include:

  • Advising clients on their entitlements and procedures related to temporary storage, weight allowances, and the shipment of personal belongings through various methods.
  • Processing correspondence, orders, and applications for property movement from residences and non-temporary storage.
  • Determining the most efficient and cost-effective rates and routes for the shipment and/or storage of household goods and personal effects.
  • Explaining customs documentation requirements for various international destinations and detailing the liability of Transportation Service Providers (TSPs).
  • Identifying discrepancies in documentation and discussing them with applicants to clarify any potential additional costs or liabilities.

The role also involves preparing and processing applications for the transportation or storage of a diverse range of personal property and vehicles, including special items. This includes:

  • Assessing the mode and method of transportation based on shipment weight, destination, and eligibility of TSP.
  • Arranging for the movement of special items, considering their condition and necessary handling for safe transport.
  • Conducting detailed cost comparisons to identify the most economical movement methods.
  • Maintaining accurate records of stored items and updating members' storage records as necessary.

Additionally, the Transportation Coordinator reviews invoices and requests for completeness and legality concerning DOD-sponsored shipments. This includes:

  • Examining vouchers and related documents to validate charges and ensure compliance with government contracts.
  • Initiating correspondence to obtain necessary data and returning improper billings to carriers.
  • Performing pre-audits on contractor invoices to ensure accuracy in rates and services.

Furthermore, the role requires researching and comparing transportation vouchers, calculating necessary adjustments, and preparing instructions for carriers and vendors regarding any billing discrepancies.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following educational and experience criteria:

  • Two years of relevant experience in clerical work or similar roles, along with two years of experience in a related field.
  • Proficiency in office automation and computer skills is essential.
  • Language proficiency in English and German at level B2 is required.

This is a permanent full-time position (38.5 hours per week) with the possibility of remote work on an ad-hoc basis. The organization offers:
