What distinguishes this position?
The role of the Systems Engineer encompasses comprehensive management of the hardware, operating systems, and application services within the Lighthouse Global Datacenter and Office Services infrastructure. This position is pivotal in optimizing server uptime, configuring hardware and operating systems, generating performance reports, managing capacity, resolving issues (both on-site and remotely), providing local IT support, and conducting testing. Responsibilities include formulating solutions, implementing them, documenting processes, and ensuring follow-up. The Systems Engineer must exhibit meticulous attention to detail and be available for 24/7 support by participating in an on-call rotation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and maintain the hardware and operating system configurations of global data center systems, primarily focusing on the Germany region.
- Uphold Lighthouse's global compliance standards through patch management and vulnerability remediation.
- Execute system engineering tasks related to servers, SAN/NAS, and networking devices.
- Manage and maintain essential system applications, including messaging, virtualization, business continuity, and data protection.
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems, serving as a subject matter expert in specific areas (Windows/Linux OS, data center infrastructure, etc.).
- Provide system and user administration in the Frankfurt office, handling desktops, printers, Wi-Fi, processing system access requests, and generating system utilization dashboards.
- Actively engage in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by adhering to established SOP policies, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
- Offer technical support for incident analysis, responses, and escalation as necessary.
- Collaborate with Lighthouse Application, Networking, Storage, and Infosec teams.
- Participate in working groups to explore innovative technology applications that support repeatable workflows.
- Assist in security assessments and other activities to secure and maintain operational authorization.
- Ensure secure configurations align with security and regulatory compliance (ISO/IEC 27001, PCI DSS, etc.) in a hybrid infrastructure environment (cloud and on-premises).
- Communicate professionally and courteously with colleagues, management, customers, vendors, and others.
- Execute infrastructure lifecycle activities, from initial setup to decommissioning tasks, including necessary data migrations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Possess strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and storage.
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of Active Directory, DFS, DNS, DHCP, GPO, and IPAM.
- Exhibit proficiency in virtualization platforms such as VMware, Horizon View, and Hyper-V.
- Show strong skills in scripting languages, including PowerShell, Perl, or Python.
- Have a good understanding of Microsoft 365 and Azure.
- Work independently with a high level of initiative and excellent troubleshooting skills while fostering collaboration across the team and enterprise stakeholders.
- Analyze and resolve outages and incidents effectively.
- Communicate exceptionally with internal and external clients before and during maintenance activities.
- Knowledge of SSL certificate generation and deployment is advantageous.
- Actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established SOP policies, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Ideal Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology.
- 3 to 5 years of Systems Administration experience in relevant areas.
- At least one security or digital forensics industry certification, such as CISSP, EnCE, CCE, CFCE, MCFE, or similar.
- Experience managing virtual server systems in an enterprise environment (VMware, Azure, Cisco/HPE servers, Pure/Nimble/Dell storage).
- Familiarity with managing automation tools in an enterprise environment.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Duties are performed in a typical office environment at a desk or computer workstation.
- Responsibilities require the ability to use a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed materials in a quiet and professional setting.
- Duties may necessitate being on call periodically and working outside normal hours (evenings and weekends).
