Position Overview:
The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer will report directly to the Director of Advanced Manufacturing Machining. This role is pivotal in executing the manufacturing strategy aimed at optimizing machining processes, ensuring proper equipment utilization, adhering to design specifications, conducting setup reviews, and implementing new control strategies. The engineer will lead the specification, sourcing, qualification, and transition of new equipment into mass production, ensuring compliance with both Dover and customer standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with operational teams to enhance Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) through initiatives such as Single-Minute Exchange of Die (SMED) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
- Contribute to corporate strategies aimed at increasing productivity by internalizing expenditures on new capital expenditures and optimizing machine utilization.
- Lead SMED events and site assessments of CNC technology, managing improvement projects effectively.
- Support the maturity journey for the Machining Excellence Playbook in collaboration with operational teams.
- Provide technical expertise and deployment of new machining technologies to enhance productivity.
- Drive productivity improvements by maximizing asset utilization and refining machining strategies.
- Assist in the evolution of equipment and conduct acceptance evaluations as necessary.
- Identify, recommend, procure, and install machine shop equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and calibration.
- Optimize workforce utilization, workspace design, and workflow for maximum efficiency.
- Continuously recommend upgrades to equipment to enhance asset utilization.
- Engage with tooling suppliers to ensure the use of appropriate tooling for production, collaborating on the development of advanced cutting tools.
- Develop in-house machining capabilities while enhancing machine functionality.
- Identify and implement new machining methods to improve quality, reduce costs, and optimize production schedules.
- Utilize lean manufacturing principles for process development and problem-solving.
- Conduct root cause analyses for non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
- Support manufacturing goals related to safety, quality, efficiency, and throughput, identifying improvement opportunities.
- Apply project management skills to lead capital equipment and improvement projects.
- Investigate equipment performance issues and propose corrective actions.
- Draft and revise User Requirement Specifications, Functional Requirements, Design Specifications, and Qualifications.
- Support Factory and Site Acceptance Tests, Machinability Studies, and validation protocols.
- Review and approve PFMEA, DFMEA, PPAPs, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), ensuring compliance with manufacturing and operational standards.
- Utilize continuous improvement methodologies to enhance internal processes.
- Foster constructive interactions across the organization to identify issues and implement improvements.
- Provide hands-on support for new product and process launches.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or manufacturing engineering, industrial technology, or a related field.
- A minimum of five years of experience in manufacturing engineering with a focus on machining processes.
- Proficiency in setting up and operating advanced machining equipment.
- Extensive experience in machining and maintenance practices.
- Familiarity with standard machine shop manufacturing processes and setups.
- Strong experience with SolidWorks or similar mechanical CAD software.
- Expertise in precision conventional and advanced metrology systems.
- Commitment to safety in design and operational practices.
- Solid understanding of Lean manufacturing concepts.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration across departments.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
