Job Description

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Algorithm Development and Validation: Develop and validate processing algorithms for instrument data.
  • Instrument Characterization and Calibration: Characterize and calibrate space-borne observation instruments.
  • Processing Specifications and Review: Coordinate and review processing specifications for operational processors.
  • Satellite Data Formats: Coordinate and review satellite data formats.
  • Test Data Generation: Generate test data packages for end-to-end and cross verification of processing chains.
  • Instrument Data Simulator and Ground Processor Prototypes: Support development and reviews of instrument data simulators and ground processor prototypes.
  • Space and Ground Segment Implementation: Investigate implications and constraints of space and ground segment implementation.
  • Instrument Anomaly Investigation: Investigate and review instrument anomalies.
  • Tool Development: Develop Python and C++ tools for reviews, investigations, analysis, and data viewing.
  • Technical Documentation: Provide technical documentation on L0 and L1 product specifications, auxiliary files specifications, and test/verification reports.
Qualifications and Experience

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor or Master's degree in Engineering or relevant disciplines.
  • Experience: Experience in engineering of space and/or ground systems, particularly in Low-Earth Orbiting satellites, including end-to-end data acquisition and processing.
  • Instrument Data Processing: Experience in verifying instrument data processing systems.
  • Test Data Development: Experience in developing test data sets, test tools, or instrument data processor prototypes.
  • Operational Product Specification: Experience in specifying operational products for earth observation missions.
  • Requirements-Based Design: Experience in requirements-based design, development, and verification processes of polar satellite systems following ECSS standards and using DOORS.
  • Space-Borne Observation Instruments: Knowledge of relevant space-borne observation instruments, including EPS-SG satellites.
  • Programming Skills: Experience with Linux, Bash scripting, Python, and Matlab.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English is mandatory; knowledge of German is an advantage.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • EPS-SG Instruments: Knowledge or experience of EPS-SG instruments, specification of instrument source packets, and algorithms to process L0 and L1 products.
  • Algorithm Processing Specification: Proven experience in following up preparation of algorithms processing specification and associated test data, including maintenance of the baseline.
  • EPS-SG Product Content and Specification: Knowledge of EPS-SG product content and specification.
  • EPS-SG Processing Algorithms and Specification: Knowledge of EPS-SG processing algorithms and specification.
  • EPS-SG System and Operational Processors Design: Knowledge of EPS-SG system and operational processors design.
  • System Change Control and Configuration Management: Familiarity with system change control and configuration management procedures.
  • Data Analysis Software Packages: Familiarity with data analysis software packages and programming/scripting skills in other coding languages such as Python/Java/Perl, etc.
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering Tools: Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering tools, specifically CORE 9 from Vitech.
