BNY Mellon is seeking a highly skilled Counsel - Germany Legal Expert to join our EMEA Legal team in Frankfurt. As a key member of our team, you will provide legal advice and support to our BNY Mellon entities located in Germany.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and support to BNY Mellon entities in Germany
  • Coordinate work with other lawyers in the EMEA Legal department and jurisdictional specific lawyers to deliver high-quality legal advice tailored to BNY Mellon's business models
  • Negotiate and certify compliance of DRVs with relevant CRR and EMIR requirements
  • Provide German legal and regulatory advice to support the FX & Derivatives sales & trading desks in our Frankfurt branch
  • Advise business and management on banking and financial law/regulation
  • Support business in developing services and products in line with applicable law & regulation
  • Support strategic business initiatives in providing effective and timely legal advice and drafting legal documentation
  • Assist management and Compliance in developing plans to comply with new law and regulation
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with clients and local sub-custodians and Central Securities Depositories
  • Advise and prepare documentation in relation to internal and external outsourcing
  • Advise management on corporate law and corporate governance
  • Represent Legal and actively participate in governance bodies, business steering committees, and working groups
  • Advise generally on a wide range of commercial matters
  • Support the instruction and management of external counsel
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in a law firm and/or legal department of a financial institution
  • German state examination, Master's degree, or post-graduate degree
  • Licensed as a lawyer (Rechtsanwalt / Rechtsanwältin) or in-house lawyer (Syndikusrechtsanwalt / -anwältin)
  • Fluent in English and German
  • Familiarity with current legal, regulatory, and market trends and initiatives impacting Germany
  • Strong knowledge of the financial services & banking industry and regulation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
  • Strong organization skills
  • Adept problem-solving skills
  • Flexible and adaptable working style
