Your Responsibilities
We are seeking applications for a postdoctoral researcher position focusing on the intersection of developmental biology, neurobiology, mechanobiology, and biophysics within the laboratory of Kristian Franze. The selected candidate will explore the influence of tissue mechanics on the formation of the nervous system. This includes investigating how local mechanical properties of tissues interact with biochemical signals to influence brain morphology.
This project, funded by the European Research Council (ERC), emphasizes collaboration and will involve partnerships with institutions in various countries, fostering an international research environment.
The Franze laboratory is dedicated to understanding how mechanical cues, such as tissue rigidity and cellular forces, affect neuronal development and function in both healthy and diseased states. Utilizing both in vitro and in vivo methodologies across diverse biological systems, the lab examines how cells perceive their mechanical surroundings and how they integrate mechanical and chemical signals. Key techniques employed include atomic force microscopy, live imaging, and a variety of biochemical and molecular biology methods to manipulate specific cellular functions and tissue properties. By joining our lab, you will become part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team with a supportive atmosphere.

Essential Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a solid foundation in molecular or developmental biology. A high degree of enthusiasm and curiosity is essential, along with the ability to independently manage research projects and collaborate effectively within a team. Strong communication skills are necessary to engage with colleagues and collaborators from diverse scientific disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency in programming languages (such as Matlab or Python) and/or experience with microscopy techniques would be beneficial, though not mandatory.
Additional Information
This is a fixed-term research position, with funding available for an initial period of 36 months, with the possibility of extension based on project needs.
