Role Overview:
The Field Sales Engineer is tasked with achieving the annual sales objectives for a designated sales territory as assigned by management. This role involves developing new accounts, markets, and the sales of innovative products in alignment with the Company's Business Plan. The incumbent will maintain a comprehensive understanding of the Company's products, their applications, services, and policies. Responsibilities include servicing all customers within the assigned territory, providing management with market insights and competitive intelligence, and staying informed about market dynamics. The role operates within a specified budget and manages distribution channels. It requires penetrating and cultivating new accounts while sustaining existing business and integrating product/process knowledge into a successful territory strategy. The engineer will engage with prospective customers, offering information and demonstrations, while assessing customer needs and competitor activities.
Alkegen Values - the incumbent is expected to embody the following values while performing their duties:
Achieve or surpass sales targets. Expect to travel overnight (75% of the time), primarily within the assigned territory, with some international travel possible. Develop and implement territory strategies. Optimize time spent with customers while minimizing travel. Cluster account visits and focus on one territory zone each day. Provide accurate sales forecasts regularly (weekly, monthly, etc.). Utilize CRM software to identify, track, and close opportunities. Document and store accounts, contacts, call reports, and activities within the CRM. Submit expense reports punctually and within budget. Formulate strategies to penetrate key competitive accounts. Understand the Value-Based Sales Model to maximize the value derived from opportunities. Recognize customer pain points and employ a value-selling approach. Collaborate closely with the application engineering team to enhance knowledge of applications and products, as well as selling, presentation, and negotiation skills. Continuously improve selling, business, and management skills. Organize and lead regular sales meetings with the team. Deliver technical presentations to large groups (e.g., lunch and learns). Present special initiatives: marketing programs, new products, training, and educational seminars. Gather competitive intelligence and relay it to the Marketing and Growth team. Work in tandem with customer service management to address and resolve issues and complaints related to quality, delivery, accounts receivable, and obsolescence. Lead the team in selling all products while focusing on those that yield higher gross margins.Qualifications/ Experience:
The ideal candidate will possess prior experience in refractory products and established relationships within the HPI, Oil and Gas, and Petrochemical sectors. A B.S. Degree, preferably in Engineering. Proficiency in German is required. English does not need to be the primary language, but the ability to communicate in English when necessary is essential. Previous experience in sales and negotiation across both small and large scales is preferred. Familiarity with refractory solutions and the marketplace is advantageous. Proven success in selling technical materials or products in industrial markets. Self-driven with a strong desire and capability to build relationships. Knowledge of CRM & ERP systems, Incoterms, products and applications, competitive products, and technical drawings is preferred. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and bills of materials is preferred.
