We are currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Health and Safety Advisor to be part of our Project Delivery Group (PDG) in Essen, Germany. This dynamic team is committed to delivering world-class projects globally, leveraging expertise in sustainable practices, asset management, and operational efficiencies.
This role reports to the Regional Director of Project Management & Construction and functionally to the Global Director of Health & Safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the implementation, monitoring, and enhancement of the Hatch safety management system in line with DIN EN ISO 45001:2015 standards.
- Fulfill the responsibilities of an occupational safety specialist as per § 6 ASiG.
- Manage incident reporting processes, including investigation, statistical analysis, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Coordinate and facilitate the deployment of the Hatch Safety Management Information System (iPas SM) across projects and offices.
- Ensure compliance with legal, standard, and project-specific health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements.
- Develop and execute risk assessments.
- Assist in the creation and upkeep of safety data sheets and operational manuals.
- Prepare for and participate in Occupational Safety and Health Committee meetings.
- Support and engage in internal and external audit processes.
- Assist in maintaining legal compliance and the legal register.
- Ensure performance evaluations, training, and development opportunities for all personnel.
- Provide support and guidance for workers' compensation and rehabilitation.
- Collaborate with the Global Director of Health and Safety to promote and enhance health and safety practices.
- Facilitate the development and execution of project-specific health and safety plans.
- Contribute to the preparation and review of health and safety sections in proposals.
- Coordinate weekly and monthly project reports, audits, reviews, and closure reports.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Extensive experience in health and safety management within heavy industrial construction and office environments, with a minimum of 3 years in a senior role.
- Professional background as an H&S manager in plant engineering, service, or maintenance sectors, with knowledge of relevant standards (ISO 45001, SCC).
- Completed technical education or equivalent technical training.
- Certification as an occupational safety specialist or safety engineer in accordance with § 7 ASiG.
- Exceptional written, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and self-manage.
- Comfortable in both office and project site settings.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for business purposes.
- High proficiency in computer skills.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire teams in health and safety initiatives.
- Fluency in German and English, both written and spoken, at a professional level.
