Semiconductor Laser Modelling for Autonomous Vehicles

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our team at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT as a research assistant. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a practice-oriented final thesis in the field of semiconductor laser modelling for autonomous vehicles.
Key Responsibilities- Extension of our in-house simulation software for laser diodes
- Implementation of a model to describe the optical properties of a VCSEL with complex heterostructure and current-constricting apertures
- Coupling the results of these calculations to existing models for electrical transport and temperature distribution
- Development and evaluation of design concepts for improved semiconductor heterostructures
- Currently studying a Bachelor's/Master's degree program
- Interest in semiconductor lasers and autonomous driving
- Enjoy simulation and programming
- Initial experience with numerics or the programming language Python is advantageous, but not mandatory
- A creative and interdisciplinary working environment in a highly motivated team
