Position Overview: The Fraunhofer Institute for Silicon Technology ISIT, located in Itzehoe and Kiel, is seeking a dedicated Research Associate to join our dynamic team of approximately 190 employees. Our 'Power Electronics' department is at the forefront of developing cutting-edge active and passive power semiconductor components utilizing silicon and gallium nitride technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on high-power DC-DC and DC-AC converters, particularly focusing on modular structures for medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) grids.
  • Investigate circuit breaker technologies, including solid-state and hybrid options, and explore derating strategies using power converters for external fault protection.
  • Effectively communicate research findings internally and externally, fostering collaboration with fellow scientists.
  • Contribute to the scientific profile of the institute through publications and the acquisition of research and industrial projects.

Qualifications:

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, power electronics, or a related field.
  • Experience in the design and testing of high-power converters, especially modular topologies such as Modular Multilevel Converters (MMC).
  • Practical knowledge of medium voltage devices and converters is advantageous.
  • A strong sense of independence, initiative, and commitment, paired with curiosity and a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new challenges and take on responsibilities within a team setting.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is essential.
