Casualty Underwriting Strategy Leader: AIG Germany

About the Role:

AIG is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to fill the position of Head of Casualty DACH. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the Casualty underwriting strategy for the DACH cluster, driving business growth and excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement Underwriting Strategy: Develop, monitor, and influence the deployment of the Casualty underwriting strategy, including talent management, product development, and executing upon agreed local strategies within global 'guardrails.'
  • Manage Key Relationships: Manage key broker and client relationships across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, driving the interaction with Distribution, Claims, Actuarial, Finance, and other functions to achieve product and company goals.
  • Lead Business Decisions: Support the teams in making business decisions that leverage their expertise and experience in combination with powerful, analytical models, championing and driving continuous professional development of the Casualty team across DACH.
  • Ensure Governance and Compliance: Ensure the required standards of governance, systems, and controls, and regulatory compliance are established and maintained.
  • Lead Cultural Development: Lead the development and ongoing maintenance of the Company's customer-centric and risk management culture.

Business Management:

  • Develop and Monitor Underwriting Strategy: Develop / monitor / manage the Casualty Underwriting Strategy for the DACH cluster.
  • Manage Underwriting Teams: Management responsibility for the Casualty Underwriting teams and resource management in close coordination with the country GMs of the DACH region and the global product towers.
  • Assume Budget Responsibility: Assumption of budget responsibility for the profit center Casualty DACH in coordination with the Head of Casualty Europe.
  • Manage Day-to-Day Business: Management of the day-to-day business for the profit center.
  • Drive Portfolio Growth: Responsibility for a profitable, growing portfolio, including channel management and go-to-market strategy.
  • Handle Key Relationships: Handling of the most important broker and customer relationships in the DACH region.
  • Escalation and Contact: Escalation and contact person for brokers and customers.

External Relationship Management:

  • Represent AIG: Representing AIG to major clients and brokers.
  • Enhance AIG Brand: Expand and enhance the AIG Germany brand.
  • Manage Regulatory Relationships: Managing regulatory and external director stakeholder relationships.

People Management:

  • Hiring and Resource Allocation: Making hiring and resource allocation decisions for resources in the country, in alignment with the regional and global governance structure and ensuring and fostering a diverse work environment.
  • Communicate Company Direction: Communicating the AIG DACH vision, mission, and overall company direction.
  • Senior Leadership Team: Serve as a member of the DACH Senior Leadership Team.

Requirements:

  • Education: Successfully completed legal or economics studies.
  • Experience: Experience in the DACH insurance market and the casualty industry and its development opportunities.
  • Industry Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of legal regulations in the marine and transport sector.
  • Business Thinking: Strong business thinking, sound judgment, and analytical skills to lead strategically and results-oriented.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills and the ability to work with different business units and industries, especially with regard to stakeholder management at different hierarchical levels.
  • Change Management: Strong experience in change management and team leadership as well as the ability to manage and implement change.
  • Language Skills: Very good communication skills (written, oral, presentations, training) in German and English.

Technical Skills and Expertise:

  • DACH Industry Experience: Significant DACH and German industry experience, stature, and credibility in one or more product lines.
  • Country Operations Management: Several years' experience in managing country operations or larger functional or product teams within the DACH region.
  • Leadership and Strategy: A leader who develops a bold vision and distinct strategies that result in competitive advantage and is results-oriented, hands-on leader; who sets, pursues, and achieves goals for organizational success.
  • Representation and Communication: Ability to represent AIG persuasively and effectively in internal and external settings, e.g., client meetings and industry presentations.
  • International Insurance Carrier Experience: Proven track record of successfully operating in an international insurance carrier.
