About the team and the role:
We are excited to announce the establishment of a new engineering hub in Germany. Several new engineering teams focused on payments will be developed from the ground up in our Dreilinden office near Berlin. We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack (d/f/m) to be part of one of these new teams, contributing to the creation of innovative products for our financial services at eBay. You will work on new solutions for millions of customers, aiding our sellers in gaining better financial insights and facilitating seamless business operations. You will take the lead in developing modern Java/Spring Boot web applications by crafting system designs, defining the technical roadmap, guiding the team on all technical matters, and writing code. You will report to a Senior Manager of Engineering and collaborate closely with the broader engineering team at the new hub. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a new team that fosters a collaborative, transparent, and highly technical culture.
What you will accomplish:
- Mentor and guide junior team members, drive architectural decisions, align technical choices with the broader organization, and evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future needs.
- Analyze requirements for new products and translate them into a scalable software architecture.
- Develop back-end web services using Java/Spring Boot, along with front-end applications utilizing JavaScript (React and similar frameworks), NodeJS, HTML, and CSS.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality software by establishing robust CI/CD pipelines, designing and writing tests, participating in code reviews and debugging, and documenting processes.
- Own significant projects and features from design through coding, testing, deployment, and support.
- Become a domain expert in the complex ecosystem of payments within eBay.
What you will bring:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, with 7 years of experience in designing and developing highly scalable web applications.
- Extensive experience in translating requirements into scalable and future-proof software architectures, along with a broad understanding of design patterns and technologies used in web application design.
- Proficiency in back-end development of RESTful web services using Java / Spring Boot / J2EE.
- Practical experience with JavaScript and popular front-end frameworks like React, HTML5, TypeScript, and CSS3.
- Familiarity with tools such as Jira and Git is essential.
- Experience in writing unit tests with mocking.
- eBay requires employees to be present in the Dreilinden office three days per week on average.
