Job Overview
AVIV Group is in search of a seasoned Principal Data Engineer to spearhead the architecture, development, and deployment of a robust data platform utilizing AWS technologies. This pivotal role will report directly to the Head of Engineering, Data Operations, and will be instrumental in shaping how various departments within the organization access and utilize data, ultimately enhancing their data capabilities and driving value creation.
As a Principal Data Engineer, you will be at the forefront of defining the data strategy for the organization, ensuring that our data management and processing systems are scalable, reliable, and efficient. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of AWS services and data architecture principles, along with a proven history of mentoring engineering teams to deliver sophisticated technical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and oversee the implementation of the AWS-based data platform, ensuring alignment with business objectives and strategic initiatives.
- Lead the transition towards decentralized data ownership, emphasizing the delivery of value through effective tools and technologies.
- Collaborate with various teams to assess business requirements and guide the development of federated data products, focusing on achieving optimal product outcomes.
- Regularly assess and incorporate new AWS features and services to improve the platform's functionality and adapt to changing demands.
- Work closely with information security, legal, and enterprise architecture teams to establish and uphold data architecture standards and best practices.
- Simplify complex technical ideas for non-technical stakeholders, illustrating their significance for business results and the safeguarding of sensitive information.
- Provide mentorship to engineering teams, promoting a culture of collaboration, innovation, and a strong commitment to excellence.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in constructing data platforms and products within AWS environments.
- Strong understanding of business dynamics and a product-focused approach.
- Excellent leadership and teamwork abilities, capable of engaging across multiple teams and departments.
- Proficient in data engineering technologies and tools, including Kafka, Hadoop, and Spark.
- Knowledgeable in data modeling, federation, and governance, including establishing data contracts, implementing quality controls, managing PII data, and ensuring GDPR compliance.
- Experience in platform engineering teams with a proactive attitude.
- Ability to thrive in an agile setting, promoting effective collaboration and continuous delivery.
