About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Counsel to join our team at Johnson Controls in Düsseldorf. As a key member of our European and global legal team, you will play a critical role in shaping the company's legal strategy and contributing to its success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support business units, expert departments, and management in all legal matters, with a focus on contract law, construction law, and digitalization/software/IP law.
  • Independently propose practical solutions to minimize legal risks and initiate improvements.
  • Conduct training for employees.
  • Accompany and coordinate disputes and court proceedings in cooperation with external lawyers.
  • Work closely with the European and global legal team and other functions of a worldwide matrix organization on strategic initiatives, transformation processes, and cross-regional issues.

Requirements

  • Qualified German lawyer (1st and 2nd state examinations); additional foreign studies (e.g. LL.M.) are an advantage.
  • Several years of professional experience, including at least 3 years in an international industrial company and, ideally, in an international commercial law firm.
  • Legal generalist with business acumen and a strong understanding of project business, international matrix structures, process, and business workflows of an international company.
  • Strong knowledge of contract, IP, and software law.
  • Ability, interest, and willingness to act as a business partner to quickly and efficiently find pragmatic, business-oriented solutions and to assume responsibility for the success of the company - even outside traditional legal areas.
  • Excellent communication skills and cooperative working style.
  • Fluency in English; additional language skills very advantageous.
  • Experience in commercial contract and claim management as well as legal tech solutions advantageous.
