PhD Student Position in Crystal Growth

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our team at the Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung. The successful candidate will be involved in the growth of narrow gap III-V semiconductor bulk crystals using the vertical gradient freeze (VGF) method.

The research tasks will include the design and realization of project-specific crystal growth experiments, as well as the physical and structural characterization of the grown crystals. As a member of our group, you will be involved in interdisciplinary European collaborations, reaching from raw material synthesis to application in devices.

We are looking for a candidate with strong communication skills, the assertiveness to work in an internationally positioned institute, and the willingness to formulate their own scientific ideas.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, or related fields
  • Knowledge of semiconductor materials, devices, and bulk crystal growth
  • Motivation and capability to do scientific work, as well as its documentation and presentation
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken English is required. German language skills are desirable.

What We Offer

The position is limited to three years, with an extension for another year possible. Payment is according to TVöD Bund (75%) including the usual social benefits. The Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung actively supports a healthy work-life balance and is an equal opportunities employer.
