Electrical Maintenance Technician
**Top Secret Clearance Required**
The Electrical Maintenance Technician will play a vital role in supporting the Facilities Engineering Operations & Maintenance (FEO&M) division by executing routine and preventive maintenance, diagnosing issues, and repairing electrical systems within the facility. This position prioritizes Operations & Maintenance (O&M) activities over installation tasks, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of electrical infrastructure.
The technician is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center operates at optimal efficiency. This includes planned preventative maintenance, daily corrective work, and emergency response to urgent issues. Acting as a key technical resource, the technician will report to a program manager and collaborate with Onsite Engineering Operations (OEO) and third-party vendors. They are expected to be the primary point of contact for all facility operations within a designated data center and to support operated data centers. Equipment that supports mission-critical servers must maintain an uptime of better than 99.999%.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, control systems, and emergency power systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Maintain and repair electrical components such as switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, and motors.
- Assist in overseeing the duties of junior technicians and manage contractors' roles for electrical tasks.
- Monitor the performance of electrical systems and recommend enhancements to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Utilize building management systems (BMS) and other monitoring tools to track electrical system performance and identify potential issues proactively.
- Contribute to the development of energy management strategies aimed at reducing energy consumption and costs.
- Possess comprehensive knowledge of electrical systems, components, and maintenance practices.
- Demonstrate proficiency in using electrical testing and diagnostic tools.
- Familiarity with building management systems (BMS) and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Analyze system requirements, conduct research on equipment and procedures, and recommend modifications to existing systems. Install new units or replacement parts according to specifications and established safety guidelines.
- Employ safe working practices, including lockout/tagout procedures and good housekeeping methods.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and modify malfunctioning electronic units, including printed circuit boards and advanced electrical circuits.
- Perform maintenance, installations, and service repairs on critical data center systems and all industrial electrical equipment to ensure efficient operation.
- Conduct daily facility walk-throughs to document parameters such as power availability, temperature, humidity, and alarm status.
- Manage mechanical and electrical systems during emergency situations, including HVAC components and power distribution equipment.
- Identify required materials and parts for maintenance and repair; prepare and present cost estimates for parts and equipment.
- Maintain relationships with major vendor accounts.
- Schedule and oversee all critical environment vendors during maintenance and emergency events to ensure personnel safety.
- Set up and operate electrical data capturing devices.
- Create and review MOPs and SOPs to ensure the most current techniques and safety guidelines are utilized.
- Generate internal and vendor field service reports detailing all activities performed at the facility.
- Develop reliability reports to identify areas for increased efficiency and to mitigate unplanned downtime.
- Conduct training for junior technicians and other staff on electrical equipment and systems.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience and a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and construction documents.
- Journeyman Electrician and/or Master Electrical license preferred.
- Strong organizational skills to manage planned and unplanned activities while meeting deadlines.
- Proficient in using hand tools and test equipment for maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of building automation systems and their components.
- Commitment to excellence and high-quality work.
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel as required.
- Top Secret Clearance Required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift at least 100 pounds and relocate a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
- Capable of working at heights up to 60 feet and maintaining balance on various types of ladders.
- Regularly engage in physical activities such as walking, climbing, lifting, and reaching overhead.
- Good vision and hearing abilities to communicate effectively.
