Job Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated master's thesis student to contribute to the development of a novel electrified microfluidic chip for Lab-on-Chip systems in Life Sciences applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop theoretical models and numerical simulations to analyze electric field, fluid flow, and heat generation within the electrified microfluidic chip using the Finite Element Method on COMSOL.
  • Apply numerical simulations to determine physical parameters associated with electrodynamics, microfluidics, and thermodynamics processes occurring within the chip for different fabrication geometries.
  • Conduct literature research to establish the acceptable range of physical parameters necessary to ensure cell viability in an electrified microfluidic system.
  • Integrate simulation results with literature research findings to optimize operating parameters and geometry of the chip for cell viability.
  • Compare assessment based on numerical simulations with experimental characterizations of a fabricated chip (optional).
Requirements
  • Master studies in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or comparable fields with a focus on microfluidics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, electrotechnics, or numerical modeling.
  • General knowledge in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, microfluidics, or electrotechnics; experience in mathematical description and modeling of systems, particularly with the Finite Element Method (FEM) and COMSOL software.
  • Team player with curiosity, determination, commitment, self-motivation, analytical skills, independence, structure, and proactivity.
  • Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary scientific work with an affinity for creative and innovative problem-solving.
  • Very good English language skills; German is a plus.
