Department Overview: The MSK group is tasked with the control systems, feedback regulations, and synchronization of particle accelerators. Our international team of engineers, technicians, and scientists is responsible for the development, installation, and operation of complex instruments for advanced research facilities. The Low-Level Radio Frequency (LLRF) group within MSK focuses on the design, installation, operation, maintenance, and enhancement of LLRF systems utilized in our accelerators and partner laboratories. Our research encompasses cutting-edge field detection, resonance control, RF diagnostics, and beam control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the LLRF research and development initiatives for the European High Duty Cycle (HDC) upgrade program.
- Oversee the design of advanced resonance control systems for superconducting cavities, addressing detuning calculations, microphonic noise mitigation, bandwidth detection, and performance assessment, particularly for long RF pulse and continuous wave operations.
- Supervise and mentor one postdoctoral researcher and one to two PhD candidates engaged in relevant research projects.
- Collaborate with industrial partners to enhance the efficient operation of high-power sources.
- Plan and organize LLRF testing activities at cryomodule test facilities or user facilities during designated study periods.
- Present findings at progress review meetings, workshops, and international conferences.
- Facilitate the integration of newly validated results into the existing LLRF systems, including software and firmware updates.
Qualifications:
- A university degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent expertise and experience.
- A PhD and/or extensive experience in an accelerator research environment.
- Proven expertise in LLRF systems, including design and operational experience in accelerator facilities.
- Strong background in control systems, feedback controller design, and optimization.
- In-depth knowledge of electromagnetic fields and resonance control in superconducting cavities.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and excellent teamwork capabilities.
- Proficiency in English is essential.
