About the Company

At Torc, we are pioneers in the realm of autonomous vehicle technology, committed to revolutionizing transportation, freight movement, and business operations.

Since our inception in 2007, we have been at the forefront of autonomous driving, collaborating with experienced partners to commercialize our innovative solutions. Our focus is dedicated to developing advanced software for automated trucks, aiming to reshape the logistics landscape.

As a leader in autonomous driving, we have amassed extensive sensor data that provides profound insights into diverse driving environments and scenarios. Within our AI Foundation Department, we are strategically integrating foundational computer vision techniques to fully leverage this data and enhance our capabilities to meet future demands.

We are currently seeking three PhD candidates who are passionate about generative neural networks, simulation, and the training of large foundational models. This role is crucial for refining and maximizing the value of our data assets. With a rich repository of sensor data, the application of generative neural networks presents a promising path. These networks, utilizing state-of-the-art machine learning methodologies such as self-supervised learning techniques, can uncover complex patterns and subtleties while relying less on labeled datasets, thereby establishing a foundation for more intelligent, data-driven decision-making.

In this role, you will collaborate with internationally recognized research institutions in the United States and Germany, advancing the state-of-the-art in sensor and algorithm capabilities, participating in international conferences, and publishing your findings accordingly.

Minimum Skills Required:

  • You have completed or are nearing completion of your Master's degree with top honors in a highly quantitative field such as Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Proficiency in English and/or German.
  • Strong programming skills in an object-oriented programming language such as Python or C++.
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems.
  • Ability to think independently and proactively.
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with object detection, tracking, reinforcement learning, or generative networks.
  • Experience in Bayesian inference or Monte Carlo methods.
  • Familiarity with Robot Operating System (ROS).

Additional Advantages:

  • Experience with cloud computing services such as Slurm, AWS, or Azure.
  • Publications in conferences such as CVPR, ICML, ECCV, ICCV, Siggraph, or similar.
  • Experience with optimization techniques.
  • Familiarity with sensors including LiDAR, RADAR, and cameras.

Application Requirements:

Please include your academic transcript along with your resume.

At Torc, we are dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We celebrate the unique qualities of our team members and do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, veteran status, or disabilities.

We encourage all qualified candidates to apply, even if you do not meet 100% of the listed qualifications.
