About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to join our team at Large Space Structures GmbH. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of space structures and technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop innovative solutions to improve existing designs and influence new product design through data-driven analysis results.
  • Create 3D CAD models, detailed part and assembly drawings, and parts lists using SolidWorks.
  • Provide technical insight on assigned projects and ensure timely completion of technical and schedule objectives.
  • Collaborate with the project Lead Design Engineer to improve the Design team working environment and increase inter- and intra-team relationships.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports/presentations and participate in internal and external design discussions and reviews.
  • Develop detailed BOM tables and work closely with the Supply Chain Manager to define procurement requirements and ensure delivery of all components as per the project schedule.
  • Take ownership of designs and interact with project partners (internal and external) to optimize designs and interfaces.
  • Coordinate with the Analysis team to facilitate validation of designs through FEA.
  • Liaise with the MAIT team to provide detailed work instructions and inputs to manufacturing and assembly procedures.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing design documentation with proper configuration control using SolidWorks PDM.
Requirements
  • Hold a degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or a similar qualification.
  • Have at least 5 years of professional experience in a design engineering role in a European space (or aerospace) project environment.
  • Experience in mechanical design of structures, including composite materials, as well as metal and CFRP components.
  • Excellent English and German language skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to learn quickly and use initiative to understand complex designs.
  • Strong analytical and solution-oriented working style combined with excellent communication skills to interface with partners.
  • Strong understanding of technical drawing and DIN standards.
  • Excellent technical reporting skills.
  • Ability to identify areas of further design optimization and influence design changes with innovative ideas and solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of metal manufacturing processes and the design-for-manufacture concept.
