POSITION SUMMARY:
The Outpatient Dialysis Registered Nurse is an essential member of the healthcare team, responsible for delivering and coordinating high-quality patient care for individuals undergoing hemodialysis treatment. This role may serve as an entry point into the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) for qualified new hires or as a progression from RN CAP 1. The nurse will ensure the provision of competent clinical care, which includes comprehensive assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for a designated patient population.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
All tasks and responsibilities are to be executed in compliance with Fresenius Kidney Care policies, nursing standards, and applicable regulations.
- Execute essential nursing functions under the supervision of the Nurse Supervisor, collaborating with Clinical Educators and fellow Registered Nurses.
- Conduct systematic collection and analysis of patient data before, during, and after hemodialysis sessions, documenting findings in medical records and adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
- Assess and document the educational needs of patients and their families, providing both initial and ongoing education.
- Oversee and facilitate the daily operations of hemodialysis therapy delivery, ensuring safety and effectiveness in collaboration with patient care staff.
- Administer prescribed medications and document their effectiveness and justification.
- Initiate emergency response measures when required.
- Act as a resource and mentor for new and existing staff, exemplifying professional behavior and work ethics.
- Ensure proper laboratory procedures are followed and address any missed collections.
- Collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Team to update nursing assessments and care plans.
- Educate patients about transplant options and treatment modalities.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and educational projects as directed.
- May serve as a Preceptor for new staff members.
- Complete CAP requirements for career advancement.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

- This position involves direct patient care, which may require heavy lifting and patient mobility assistance.
- Frequent standing and bending are necessary.
- The employee may need to assist in moving equipment weighing up to 200 lbs. and lifting solutions up to 30 lbs.
- The work environment is typical of a healthcare facility, with controlled temperatures and moderate noise levels.
- Exposure to infectious materials may occur.
- Daily tasks include desk work, computer usage, and interaction with patients and healthcare staff.
- Travel to training sites or other facilities may be required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The nurse may oversee Patient Care Technicians, LVN/LPNs, and RNs as a Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge, contingent upon meeting all training and experience requirements.
EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
- Current state nursing license.
- CPR BLS Certification required.
- Must comply with practice requirements in the state of employment.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Entry-level position for RNs with a minimum of 2 years of experience in Nephrology Nursing.
