Overview: Rolls-Royce Electrical (RRE) is looking for a graduate researcher to assist in the establishment of a stationary testing facility aimed at evaluating electric motor cooling systems. The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities including the design of facility components utilizing CAD NX, performing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations for optimizing aerothermal designs, employing Matlab for component development, liaising with suppliers for necessary parts, overseeing the procurement and installation of components, creating a data acquisition (DAQ) system for measurements, and compiling and presenting findings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing components for the testing facility using CAD NX
- Conducting CFD simulations with StarCCM+ for design enhancement
- Utilizing Matlab for the design of components
- Engaging with suppliers to procure parts
- Overseeing the purchasing and installation of components
- Developing a DAQ system for accurate measurements
- Documenting processes and reporting outcomes
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- Proficiency in CAD modeling software, preferably NX
- Experience with Matlab and Python programming
- Familiarity with CFD simulation tools, ideally StarCCM+
- Basic knowledge of workshop tools
- Interest and experience in aerothermal measurement techniques
- Ability to adhere to instructions, prioritize tasks, and apply engineering principles to problem-solving
- Fluency in both English and German
