With substantial event volumes, a network of over 1,000 travel providers, and numerous third-party integrations, we handle a diverse array of data that requires consolidation, aggregation, and standardization for swift access by our teams, customers, and partners.
The role of Director of Data Engineering and Architecture is a pivotal strategic position within our data team. You will oversee the design, construction, and maintenance of our data pipelines and storage solutions, ensuring data quality and integrity, as well as the timely availability of our data products and the foundational infrastructure for our semantic and data governance frameworks.
In this capacity, you will lead a dedicated team of engineers and architects, collaborating closely with the VP of Data and Analytics to execute our data strategy roadmap. Your advanced technical expertise will be applied throughout the data stack, contributing to the establishment of best practices across our operations. You can expect to engage in hands-on technical work for more than half of your time.
- Oversee the Architecture and Engineering division, managing team dynamics, workload distribution, performance assessments, and professional development.
- Design and implement scalable data models to create a unified, reliable source of truth for our data.
- Establish governance protocols concerning access control and the management of reference and master data.
- Supervise our data pipelines and quality assurance systems, ensuring high precision and minimal latency.
- Collaborate with both upstream and downstream data providers and consumers, fostering strong relationships and ensuring effective integration across the organization.
- Partner with Analytics Engineers to define and implement non-functional requirements for production-level data products.
- Manage our cloud infrastructure, monitoring usage and associated costs.
- Act as a thought leader, providing insights on emerging trends and technologies beneficial to our operations.
- Oversee the data tool ecosystem, ensuring high productivity and an exceptional developer experience for all data professionals.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Extensive experience in delivering sophisticated data architectures within cloud environments.
- In-depth knowledge of various data modeling techniques across both relational and non-relational databases.
- A clear understanding of the complexities and opportunities associated with managing large, dynamic, and diverse datasets.
- The ability to articulate complex technical concepts in accessible terms, fostering consensus and collaboration.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
- A collaborative spirit with outstanding communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
- A solution-oriented mindset when addressing challenges.
- Familiarity with key technologies: cloud platforms, data visualization tools, workflow orchestration, data transformation tools, containerization, SQL, Python, and infrastructure as code.
- Experience in large-scale data processing with frameworks like Apache Spark or similar, and proficiency in programming languages such as Scala, Java, or Python.
