Climate Change Mitigation Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Climate Change Mitigation Specialist to join our team at KAYA. As an AFOLU Project Development Manager, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing landscape-scale conservation and restoration projects in terrestrial ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities- Project Development: Steer the feasibility assessments and baseline studies of forestry, agriculture, and grassland projects by coordinating the activities of our climate department and country offices.
- Project Concept Development: Write project concepts and project idea notes based on inputs gathered from our climate department colleagues.
- Methodology Implementation: Ensure adherence of project development and implementation to selected scientific forestry, agriculture, or grassland methodology.
- Certification and Compliance: Be our organisation's focal point to Verified Carbon Standard, Gold Standard, BioCarbon Registry, Plan Vivo Standard, and Preferred by Nature Certification, and track developments there.
- Public Consultation: Steer the certification standard-mandated public consultation process in projects under development.
- Project Operations: Support our Head of Operations in planning and scheduling project operations.
- Documentation and Validation: Steer the complete certification standard-mandated documentation process through the life cycle of the project and coordinate the certification standard-mandated third-party validation and verification process in projects under development.
- Financial Planning: Support our Head of Climate and Finance Office in building project financial plans.
- Strong Understanding: Strong understanding of one or more from Verified Carbon Standard, Gold Standard, BioCarbon Registry, Plan Vivo Standard, and Preferred by Nature Certification.
- Methodology Knowledge: Deep knowledge of multiple AFOLU methodologies under the above-mentioned standards and certifications.
- Experience: Over five years of experience in managing or coordinating multi-team conservation and restoration projects with the potential to show samples of work done.
- Location: Willingness to live and work in Berlin.
- Commitment: Willingness to commit to a full-time (40-hours) role.
- Travel: Willingness to travel overseas for work, especially to sub-Saharan Africa.
- Culture: Openness to co-creating structures, processes, and culture at a start-up while being patient through the developmental phase.
- Language: In addition to English fluency, languages desired are French, Portuguese, and/or Spanish.
- Education: Education in agricultural, forestry, or landscape management is desirable.
- Regulations: Knowledge of national AFOLU regulations and policies in sub-Saharan African countries is a plus.
