The Department of Scientific Automation comprises four specialized groups: Trusted Machine Intelligence, Automation and Production Technology, IoT and Mechatronics, and Smart Home. Together, we create cutting-edge mechatronic systems tailored for diverse industries. We employ model-based development methodologies, customizing them to meet specific needs. Mastery of established technologies and their progressive enhancement is vital for our work. By integrating innovative techniques and technologies, we deliver bespoke, industry-ready solutions that enhance efficiency in development processes, promote resource-efficient machines and systems, and ensure seamless system integration.
Key Responsibilities
One of the significant advantages of data-driven black box systems is their ability to approximate nonlinear relationships that may not be accurately represented through traditional physical modeling. Consequently, the application of machine learning (ML) is becoming increasingly prevalent in the development of mechatronic systems. This necessitates ongoing research to be conducted on appropriate reference systems. In this project, a reference system will be identified and developed to further explore the safe integration of ML methods within mechatronic systems.
The project will involve the following steps:
- Extensive research to identify suitable benchmark systems
- System modeling within a defined modeling environment
- Development and validation of a control system for the benchmark system
- Evaluation of the control system and identification of potential ML applications
Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics
- Fundamental knowledge in control engineering and mechatronics
- Proficiency in both German and English, written and spoken
- Strong analytical skills and a self-directed work ethic
- Familiarity with Python (desirable) and/or MATLAB/Simulink (required)
