The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and ambitious researcher to join one of our flagship news and current affairs programs, Newstalk Breakfast.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in research and a passion for current events, with the ability to generate and develop original ideas for the program.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate and develop original ideas for the program and research items as per recommendation by the Producer
- React to breaking news quickly to ensure accurate and timely reporting
- Edit relevant audio clips for the program
- Break news stories and develop new angles and contributors on existing stories
- Secure on-air exclusives for the program
- Assist the Producer in all activities pertaining to the program while it is on-air, including editing and researching of items
- Identify opportunities for on-location reports to be carried out by a member of the programming team
- Write scripts and collate briefing material for the presenter
- Drive the program's presence on digital platforms
- Source new voices for the program
- Bring energy and fun to the on-air product
- Other ad-hoc tasks to keep us organized
Requirements
- At least one year's experience in a similar role
- Qualification in a related discipline
- Strong knowledge of broadcast journalism and current events
- Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure and to deadlines
