Role Overview:
We are looking for a seasoned and innovative Head of Data Engineering to spearhead and expand our data engineering capabilities. This role is crucial in defining our data strategy, architecture, and operational framework. You will collaborate closely with various stakeholders to ensure our data infrastructure is resilient, scalable, and aligned with our organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Strategy:
- Oversee the data engineering team, providing mentorship, direction, and opportunities for professional growth.
- Develop and implement the data engineering strategy, ensuring it aligns with broader business goals.
- Work in partnership with executive leadership to advance data initiatives and cultivate a data-centric culture.
- Architecture & Development:
- Design and deploy scalable and efficient data pipelines, ensuring optimal availability and reliability.
- Supervise the architecture of our data platforms, emphasizing scalability, security, and performance.
- Assess and integrate cutting-edge technologies to enhance our data processing capabilities.
- Cloud & Technology Expertise:
- Lead the transition to or optimization of cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Facilitate seamless integration of cloud technologies with existing systems and workflows.
- Promote best practices in cloud data management, security, and cost efficiency.
- Technical Leadership:
- Encourage the adoption of Python and other relevant technologies within the team for data engineering tasks.
- Establish standards and best practices for coding, testing, and deployment of data solutions.
- Collaborate closely with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to comprehend data requirements and deliver effective solutions.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Engage with other departments to understand their data needs and provide actionable insights.
- Ensure clear communication and documentation of data engineering processes and systems.
- Represent the data engineering function in cross-functional meetings and initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with a minimum of 3+ years in a leadership capacity.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and managing large-scale data architectures.
- Extensive experience with cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure) and cloud data platforms.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in Python with a comprehensive understanding of data processing libraries (e.g., Pandas, PySpark).
- Strong knowledge of ETL/ELT processes, data warehousing, and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, as well as data modeling techniques.
- Leadership & Soft Skills:
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a team of engineers.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
