Overview
We are seeking an experienced Airborne System Safety Engineer (f/m/d) to join our AeroSpace Development division at the Oberkochen location. In this department, we specialize in the design and development of aviation and electro-optical components essential for the secure operation of aircraft, as well as for reconnaissance and self-protection purposes. Become a vital member of our dynamic and expanding multidisciplinary team that supports the entire development process from initial concept through to production.Key Responsibilities
- Conduct safety evaluations for both civil and military aviation systems.
- Develop project documentation related to safety and airworthiness, including safety plans and assessments.
- Analyze and construct system architectures, ensuring safety functions are verified within existing frameworks.
- Define and evaluate safety requirements.
- Execute Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Fault Tree Analyses (FTA), Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSA), and System Safety Assessments (SSA) for initial designs and modifications.
- Perform common cause analyses, including special risk assessments and zonal safety evaluations.
- Prepare Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA).
- Estimate component failure rates and review them based on probability assessments.
- Collaborate with quality management, engineering teams, and clients to ensure safety requirements are met.
- Participate in and present findings at technical and project review milestones.
- Document design processes in accordance with development and approval protocols.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in system safety, functional safety, or certification/airworthiness within civil or military aviation.
- Proficient in standards such as ARP 4761, ARP 4754, DO-178, DO-254, and DO-160.
- Strong teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Excellent communication and facilitation abilities.
- High level of analytical thinking.
- Degree in STEM fields, aerospace, or a related discipline.
- Fluent in English with good proficiency in German, both written and spoken.
- Familiarity with tools like IBM Doors, Enterprise Architect, APIS, Reliability Workbench (Fault Tree+), and IBM Rhapsody.
- Knowledge of functional safety standards such as ISO 26262, IEC61508, and MIL-Hdbk 217F is advantageous.
