Global Patent Portfolio Management Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Patent Attorney to join our team at BASF Performance Chemicals. As a key member of our global IP unit, you will be responsible for managing a global patent portfolio for plastic additives and actively shaping IP contract activities for the business unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Align your advice with the business strategy of the division and acquire in-depth knowledge of the technologies, strategies, and goals of the division.
  • Analyze BASF research and development results for protectability and value, and secure them through industrial property rights.
  • Examine third-party intellectual property rights for their scope of protection and impact on potential BASF products and processes, and advise the business unit on available options.
  • Proactively advise internal clients on the possibilities of using industrial property rights to protect strategic business interests.

Requirements

  • Completed studies in a scientific or scientific-technical degree program and completed training as a European Patent Attorney and/or patent assessor/patent attorney.
  • Several years of practical professional experience gained in a patent department of an industrial company, in a patent law firm, or at a patent office.
  • Scientific and/or patent law experience in the field of chemistry or biochemistry, ideally including drafting and negotiation of IP contracts and knowledge of licensing and contract law.
  • Interest in digital technologies and their applications, as well as convincing and business-fluent communication in English, with good knowledge of German an advantage.
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating IP-related contracts (license agreements, CDA/MTA, R&D cooperation agreements) an advantage.
