Position Overview:
Our Institute of Space Systems in Bremen is focused on the design and analysis of future spacecraft and space missions, which include launch vehicles, orbital systems, exploration systems, and satellites. Our assessments emphasize the technical feasibility, performance, and cost-effectiveness of these systems, employing a variety of advanced, interdisciplinary engineering techniques.
We are in search of a driven student with a background in data science, computer science, engineering, or a related field. In this position, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and testing components of a data analysis pipeline tailored for reusable launch systems. These pipelines will enhance other internal developments and support ongoing demonstrator projects. The primary goal is to evaluate and analyze the flight characteristics of these vehicles using in-flight data.
Available Topics for Internship or Thesis:
- Designing data pipeline architecture for the utilization of flight data.
- Implementing engineering models as containerized applications.
- Leveraging project document libraries through LLM agents.
- Conducting Bayesian inference of aerodynamic parameters from both numerical and experimental datasets.
Candidate Requirements:
- Currently enrolled as a bachelor or master student in a relevant discipline (data science, computer science, mathematics, engineering, etc.).
- Strong programming and software engineering skills, particularly in Python, GitLab, Linux (Bash), Docker, and Docker-Compose.
- Proficient in English.
- Ability to meet personal requirements for handling export-controlled goods, in compliance with EU Dual-Use Regulation and national export control laws.
- Familiarity with software libraries from the machine learning ecosystem is advantageous, such as Pandas, Scikit-learn, PyMC, LangChain, Streamlit, Airflow, or similar.
- A background in aerospace engineering is a plus.
- Proficiency in German is an additional advantage.
