Role Overview

As a vital member of our Energy Storage Unit (ESU) development team, you will play a crucial role in the design and certification of our advanced Electric Propulsion System, which includes cutting-edge battery technology, power distribution, and controlled electric motors. Your expertise in electrical systems for aviation or electric propulsion integration will be instrumental in ensuring a safe and efficient flight experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess requirements and design specifications at both system and component levels to fulfill aircraft needs.
  • Work alongside systems and aircraft teams to maintain consistency and thoroughness throughout the development process.
  • Manage internal engineering processes in alignment with development lifecycle requirements, including requirements management and program deliverables.
  • Oversee the successful execution of the verification and validation (V&V) program for battery systems.
  • Assist in formulating the certification strategy for battery systems.
  • Take charge of component design documentation and interface control documents.
  • Conduct design reviews for battery systems and their interfaces.
  • Define test articles for validation of subsystems and components.
  • Provide technical assessments of designs to ensure comprehensive requirement coverage.
  • Specify and support validation and verification activities in accordance with ARP-4754A standards.
  • Support system and component milestone reviews (PDR/CDR/TRR).
  • Facilitate formal audits and interactions with regulatory bodies as necessary.

Qualifications:

Essential Skills:

  • A degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in process and requirement validation.
  • Proficient knowledge and several years of experience in systems engineering, requirements management, and system architecture within aviation or complex product development.
  • Deep understanding of EASA's SC-VTOL and E-19 regulations, particularly regarding battery certification for aviation.
  • Background in battery development with practical experience in DO-311A.
  • Familiarity with certification processes and experience with DO-160G.
  • Strong team player with confidence in technical discussions and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in English.

Preferred Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of high-voltage and lithium-ion batteries, digital communication protocols, and model-based systems engineering.
  • Experience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA).
  • Familiarity with battery modeling and simulation tools, such as MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Project management capabilities with the ability to lead and coordinate verification efforts within a multidisciplinary team.
