The Helmholtz Institute HI-TRON in Mainz represents a partnership between the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), Johannes Gutenberg-University (JGU), University Medicine Mainz (UM Mainz), and the non-profit TRON gGmbH. This collaboration aims to pioneer immunotherapy developments and discover new biomarkers to assess treatment efficacy.
The Division of "mRNA Cancer Immunotherapies" at HI-TRON, led by Prof. Dr. Uğur Şahin, concentrates on identifying biomarkers or targets for immunotherapy and innovating mRNA-assisted therapeutic approaches.

Technical Assistant for mRNA Cancer ImmunotherapiesReference number: -
- Full-time position
- Location: Mainz
- Department: HI-TRON Mainz – mRNA Cancer Immunotherapies
- Utilize cell biology techniques, including the processing of human blood and tissue samples, primary cell culture (particularly of immune cells), and the cultivation of 2D and 3D cell models, as well as co-cultures of tumor and immune cells.
- Conduct immunological assays such as ELISA, FACS, ELISpot, and IHC/IF staining.
- Employ molecular biology techniques including single-cell sequencing, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, library preparation, cloning, and in vitro transcription.
- Assist with animal experimentation.
- Oversee general laboratory organization, administration, and management.
- In areas of expertise, you will also be responsible for creating protocols and work instructions, as well as training colleagues.
- Actively participate in laboratory discussions and data analysis.
- Completed training as a technical assistant (BTA, CTA, MTA), biology laboratory assistant, or a comparable qualification.
- Willingness to work with blood and tissue samples.
- Experience in molecular biology and cell culture.
- Prior knowledge of immunological methods is advantageous.
- Willingness to work with animals (FELASA A certification is recommended).
- High initiative, independence, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and a keen interest in scientific endeavors, with a strong sense of responsibility and accuracy.
- Proficient communication skills in English.
- Familiarity with MS Office applications.
