In the role of Lead PNT Systems Engineer, you will become an integral part of the mission design team, serving as the authority on current and forthcoming PNT systems. This position requires a candidate who can spearhead system development initiatives aimed at proposing, designing, verifying, and implementing systems that involve intricate embedded real-time processing related to precision positioning, navigation, and timing.
As a member of Spire, you will be tasked with ensuring the delivery of high-quality, low-latency services and products while enjoying the autonomy to explore innovative, high-impact applications. Your contributions will not remain theoretical; you will witness your ideas and efforts operational in space shortly after joining.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Development of GNSS-Independent PNT Systems: Create, develop, and implement cutting-edge PNT systems and solutions tailored for diverse applications.
- System Integration: Seamlessly integrate PNT technologies into existing frameworks, ensuring optimal interoperability and functionality.
- Testing and Validation: Formulate test plans and execute comprehensive testing to confirm the performance and precision of PNT systems across various conditions and environments.
- Troubleshooting and Debugging: Diagnose and resolve technical challenges associated with PNT systems through effective troubleshooting, debugging, and root cause analysis.
- Algorithm Development: Innovate and refine algorithms for signal processing, positioning, navigation, and timing to improve the accuracy and dependability of PNT solutions.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams, including hardware engineers, software developers, and project managers, to ensure the successful deployment of PNT solutions.
Basic Qualifications:
- Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or other scientific programming languages.
- Knowledge of firmware design on FPGAs and software development on embedded processors.
- Expertise in conducting and analyzing both analytic and hardware-in-the-loop tests.
- Hands-on design experience with hardware, including radio frequency (RF) and digital components.
- In-depth understanding of GNSS theory and architecture concerning the space segment, signal interface, and receiver (user) segment.
- Expertise in existing and emerging PNT technologies, including advanced clocks and timing devices, time transfer methodologies, inertial guidance systems, and alternative PNT methods.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with GNSS-independent orbit determination and timing systems, timing distribution, Doppler ranging, laser ranging, clock models, and bias prediction.
- Familiarity with SDR platforms and associated tools for signal processing and waveform generation.
- Experience with Kalman filtering techniques for sensor fusion and state estimation in navigation systems.
- Proven ability to balance cost, complexity, and capabilities for intricate systems.
- Expertise in hardware serial communications, distribution of network time protocol (NTP), and reference signals.
- Demonstrated proficiency in C, C++ programming languages with DSP applications.
- Ability to produce production-level Python code.
- Experience in drafting technical reports and proposals.
Spire operates under a hybrid work model, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office.
