Laser Researcher

We are seeking a highly skilled Laser Scientist to join our team at DESY. As a key member of our research group, you will be responsible for developing kW-level femtosecond-laser systems to drive new generation laser-plasma accelerators.
Key Responsibilities:- Design and implement an integrative pump-laser architecture
- Evaluate and optimize laser-cooling concepts using simulations and experiments
- Implement passive and fast-active stabilization techniques
- Operate a TW class laser and participate in laser-plasma experiments
- Document and publish scientific results
- Supervise students and collaborate with other teams
- Ph.D. in physics or laser physics or equivalent qualification
- Experience with developing high-power solid-state lasers
- Knowledge of non-linear optics and pulse propagation at high peak intensities
- Comprehensive experience with laser instrumentation and hardware
- Proficiency in common scientific software (e.g., CAD, Python, Matlab, Zemax)
- Motivated and talented individual with strong team work skills
- Excellent written and spoken English skills, German skills a bonus
