Objective and Overview:
Responsible for the upkeep and organization of prefabricated modular metal structures, including soft wall and hard wall systems, as well as wooden and masonry components. Engages in the repair of sheet metal surfaces on shelter equipment and fabricates necessary components for shelter and utility systems, ensuring adherence to established Performance Work Statements (PWS).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts repairs, inspections, fabrications, cleaning, operation, maintenance, and corrosion control of BEAR order of Battle (BOB) assets and equipment, following Maintenance Action Sheets, Technical Orders, Manuals, Checklists, Regulations, and Unit Type Code (UTC) Configuration listings.
- Performs inspections, maintenance, and repairs on both ferrous and non-ferrous metal prefabricated shelter structures, including the assembly and disassembly of these shelters.
- Implements repair strategies for sheet metal, addressing both internal and external surfaces. Responsible for ordering and fitting replacement structural components as needed.
- Executes repair tasks such as fabricating patches, minor panel adjustments, and replacing riveted nuts, cam locks, hi-loc rivets, and nut plates.
- Completes and prepares documentation, including Work Orders, USAF Supply forms, and company records, while updating Maximo as necessary.
- Prepares equipment for transportation via air, sea, or road in accordance with Technical Orders, Manuals, Checklists, Regulations, and UTC Configuration listings.
- Conducts servicing and maintenance of in-use assets as required.
- Inspects, cleans, operates, and maintains contingency plumbing facilities, including Laundry, Kitchen, Latrines, and Showers.
- Fabricates and repairs wooden storage and shipping containers, providing support to related trades in all aspects of sheet metal and carpentry work.
- May assist in other departments as directed to achieve specific tasks or projects.
- Performs additional skilled or unskilled tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
- May be required to undertake Temporary Duty (TDY) in designated operational areas as needed.
- Operates material handling equipment as necessary.
- Ensures that all tools, personal protective equipment, and clothing remain safe, secure, and in good working condition, reporting any deficiencies promptly.
- Adheres to Amentum and USAFE safety, hazardous materials, and quality standards.
- Assists in the setup, construction, and operation of BEAR shelter systems and associated equipment to support real-world exercises and contingencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must possess strong organizational skills and be able to understand, speak, read, and write English at a basic level.
- Ability to read and comprehend technical data, measurements, and engineering drawings related to the construction and repair of portable building facilities and operating instructions for Civil Engineering and BOB assets.
- Experience with Maximo is preferred.
- Must hold a valid home country driver's license and be able to obtain a host nation driver's license.
- Must be capable of operating material handling equipment.
- Proficiency in English is required.
- Must have authorization to work in the host country.
Work Environment and Physical/Mental Demands:
Effective communication with supervisors, coworkers, vendors, and representatives from other departments or locations is essential to establish and maintain productive working relationships. This may involve developing repair procedures and performing welding and fabrication tasks. Communication may take various forms, including oral, written, or electronic methods. The ability to provide accurate written repair estimates, including labor, materials, and estimated completion time, is necessary. Assists in training coworkers in repair and metal fabrication techniques.
The Metal Fabrication Specialist is supervised by a Lead or Superintendent who reviews work through spot checks, discussions, and overall results. Employees may be required to work on days other than Monday through Friday and may be assigned to night or swing shifts.
Specialized safety equipment, such as respirators and protective clothing, must be worn while performing duties. Care must be taken when completing repairs due to potential fire and explosion hazards, including fuels, oils, and other unknown risks.
